| The Vision of MonkCraft
My vision is simple. To build a small
number of kayaks each year for people to enjoy. Personally I really
enjoy building kayaks and I use the building process as an opportunity
to practice mindfulness during activity. The proceeds from each kayak
goes to cover shop rent, materials and occasionally a new tool. Building
a small number of kayaks each year I can focus on quality and customer
satisfaction. |
The Monk Behind MonkCraft
Monkcraft Kayaks are built by Venerable Lodru
Dawa of Portland Oregon. I received my ordination in September 2000 as a
monk in the Tibetan tradition. I spend my time divided between retreat, my
monastery Sravasti Abbey and the shop where I build
these
kayaks. In the summer I lead small forest retreats in the forests of the
Mount Hood national forest. I also work with Liberation Prison Project where
I write to and teach prisoners. Before becoming a monk, I worked in
manufacturing as an engineering tech and CAD draftsman.
